  • What is a Mead?

Mead is an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting honey with yeast and water.

  • The History of Mead

Mead is the oldest fermented beverage known to man with evidence dating back to 7000 BC. Meads have been present in various cultures through the ages – the Vikings drank it before a battle, ancient Indian texts mentioned it and Greek and Roman historians have discussed it. There have also been numerous references in literature, from Shakespeare and Lord of the Rings to Harry Potter and even Game of Thrones. The last decade has seen a resurgence that has taken this versatile archaic drink out of history and into the limelight as the fastest-growing craft beverage in the world.

  • What are the different types of Mead?

There are many different types of meads which have names attributed as per their making style, but the most common ones are: Hydromel (mead mixed with water to bring the abv down), Melomel (mead which incorporates fruits), Cyser (quite similar to a cider, it is made by mixing apple juice with honey), Bochet (mead made from honey that is caramelized or slightly burnt thereby lending a delicious taste)

  • How to make a Mead?

Honey + water + yeast + time. That’s all you need to make a mead.

  • How long does it take to make a Mead?

Depending on the alcohol content, anywhere between 15 days to a month. (higher the abv, the more ageing it needs)
